Peta Nottle has had a very distinguished career of over fifty years as a midwife, nurse and later as Director of Nursing with the Health Department of W.A.

Peta has been recognised by the International Nurses’ Association and was featured in the 2016 February edition of World Healthcare Leaders.

She has spent much of her career working in remote aboriginal communities in Australia including in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.

She grew up in remote Western Australia and loves the people of the land. She thrives on using her healing gifts to help anyone who approaches her.

With many prestigious awards and qualifications to her name, Peta and her husband Brian love simplicity and being one with nature.

This book is Peta’s story. As you turn the pages, you will hold Peta’s hand as she walks you down memory lane. You will journey with her to little known places in Australia, travel the world with her; but you will also understand the dark and nebulous side of the health system where nepotism, politics, bullying and harassment are rampant. You will also get delightful glimpses into Peta and Brian’s life as together they journeyed through the years, bringing up children and fur babies.

This book is a memoir of our times.

The beginning ...

A Girl called Peter

I was born on the 2nd May 1947, the second child, and first-born daughter of John and Mary Rebbechi at the Three Springs Hospital in Western Australia. I was christened Barbara Mary Peter Rebbechi; however, I was only ever called “Peter”. My parents were strict Catholics and I think they named me after St Peter.

I never asked them why I was called Peter, and not Barbara, or why my name was always spelt, ‘Peter’.
Why I never asked, I do not know, but would ask now if I had the chance ever again.
